SOAL has been “Uncovering Gravestones Uncovering History”! Learn more about what our volunteers have achieved in our first year restoring Harrisburg’s oldest Black Burial Ground, in an interview with Rachael Keri Williams, founder of Saving Our Ancestors’ Legacy.
A New York state woman traveled to a Harrisburg, PA cemetery in search of her second great grandparents. At first she found a completely overgrown, abandoned churchyard, with gravestones sunken 3 feet or more and human remains on the ground. Saving Our Ancestors’ Legacy Founder and Director Rachael Williams talks with host Sheila Hyland about starting her organization to restore the cemetery and the types of history she is finding now.

It’s hard to believe SOAL’s work started just over a year ago, given how much you all have accomplished! I can’t wait to see what discoveries and change are in store for this year.
