Transcribing Lincoln Cemetery: Kindred Spirits & SOAL Collaboration
We’re transcribing Lincoln Cemetery! In a collaborative effort to preserve African American history in south central Pennsylvania, SOAL: SavingOurAncestorsLegacy has partnered with Kindred Spirits Genealogy Workshop Group (GWG) to transcribe the burial record cards of Lincoln Cemetery. This collaboration aims to digitize and make accessible invaluable primary source documents, contributing to the preservation of African American heritage in the region.
Uncovering Black History with Kindred Spirits GWG
As the Founder and Executive Director of SavingOurAncestorsLegacy, I am thrilled to announce our collaboration with Kindred Spirits Genealogy Workshop Group (GWG) in preserving African American history in south central Pennsylvania! Together, we are taking significant steps to make this history more accessible and celebrate the collective effort in safeguarding the heritage of our community.
Significance of Harrisburg’s Lincoln Cemetery Burial Records to Black History
The highlight of this partnership is the crowdsourced transcription of thousands of Lincoln Cemetery Burial Record cards, previously digitized by SavingOurAncestorsLegacy in 2021. Through the collective efforts of volunteers from Kindred Spirits GWG, this primary source document transcription project aims to unlock valuable information contained within these burial records, ultimately creating a comprehensive database.
The Lincoln Cemetery Burial Record cards hold immense significance for Black Family history. They provide essential details about thousands of individuals interred at the cemetery, shedding light on their lives, families, and connections. By transcribing and digitizing these records, researchers, historians, and descendants gain access to a comprehensive database, enriching their understanding of African American history in south central Pennsylvania.
