    A WOMAN KILLED.
Mrs. Perry Adams' Horrible Death Last Evening.
Mrs. Mary E. Adams, a white woman, wife of Perry Adams, a colored carter of West Harrisburg, was killed by the cars last evening while crossing the tracks in the company's yards, near the round houses. Mrs. Adams, accompanied by a little granddaughter aged 5 years was visiting a relative in Sibletown and left for home about 5.30 o'clock. They went by the way of Reily street which ends at the round house. To cross over the tracks requires the treat est precaution and to one not skilled in dodging, it means invariably death or accident. When Mrs. Adams reached a point midway across the yards, she made a misstep and fell. Before she could regain her feet, the Ljkens Valley accommodation came rushing by and ran over her, crushing her in to fragments. Both legs were crushed and mangled and other serious injuries afflicted upon the head and breast. The child made a miraculous escape, as she was within arms length of her grandmother when the latter was kil'ed. The woman was taken to the hospital but died shortly after being ad- milted. Deceased was well known in West Harrisburg and resided at No. 1423 Williams street. Coroner Shindler was notified, but did not hold an inquest. In cases where death is due to such gross negligence, the court has instructed the Coroner to omit the customary inquest and save the county of unnecessary costs.
