Information from contributor: Dennis Brandt (47232334) • tbng@comcast.net --
David's whereabouts in 1860 are as yet unknown as he is not found in that census, but he was a cook by profession and stood 5' 8" tall with black hair, black eyes, and a black complexion.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at the stated age of twenty-seven at Norristown, Montgomery County, March 3, 1865, as a private with Co. G, 24th U.S. Colored Troops. Sometime around May 1865, he had a pass and the army charged him $3.18 for transportation. He honorably discharged with his company October 1, 1865, at Richmond, Virginia, at which time he purchased his Springfield musket and associated equipment, probably for the standard cost of $6.00.
He married Pennsylvania-born Cornelia Lee ca. 1891 in Harrisburg where he died at his home from "chronic Bright's disease." He had been a member of Stevens Post No. 520, G.A.R.
