  Notes	The son of Jacob & Catharine Christy, in 1860 he was a fifteen-year-old laborer living with his family in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and was listed as a six-year-old in the 1850 census. He stood 5' 6" tall and had black hair, brown eyes, and with a complexion described both as "mulatto" and "light." A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-one in Readville, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, April 22, 1863, and mustered into federal service there May 13 as a private with Co. I, 54th Massachusetts Infantry. He is listed as missing in action at the battle of Olustee and presumed to have been either killed or fallen into enemy hands. In either case, there is no record of his final status. His brothers Jacob, Joseph and Samuel served in the same company, while his brother John served with Co. H, 45th United States Colored Troops. His sister Mary Jane married David Demus and Wesley Crunkleton who also served in the 54th Massachusetts.
