He had well nigh rounded out a century and the depressing effect of this weight of years, which has been plainly evidenced in years, brought about his demise. Since Feb 21st his decline was very pronounced and the time of his departure was known to be near. He was in him 93rd year and was born a slave in Clark county, W Va. In 1863 he came to this pace and has since resided here. He was one of the best known colored men in town and was familiarly known to both old and young as "Uncle Harry." For many years he was in charge of the extensive stables of the National Hotel, which were destroyed by fire about ten years ago. He had a kind word for everybody and in turn enjoyed the respect and esteem of all. His faith in the Higher Power was steadfast and continued to the end. He was a devout member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. His wife died about ten years ago, and the following children survive: Mrs Nelson Shadney, Louis and Susan, this place; Peyton and James, Philadelphia; Chas, Harrisburg; and Phillip, Pittsburg.
