  Notes	OBITUARY. George W. Carr. George W. Carr, who died in this city on Saturday evening January 17, 1885, after an illness of several weeks--although suffering for years from some affection of the heart was born August 10, 1806, in Harrisburg. He was the son of Robert Carr, of Delaware, and Elizabeth Lot, of Hanover township, Dauphin county, Pa. His mother died here in 1812, and her children were David, Charles, George, Robert and Mary. George, we think, was the last survivor of the family. He served his time with the widow of Gen. John A. Hanna, and was afterwards a waiter in the hotels of Wilson, Buehler, and others. He was well-known by the Legislators of the long ago, and much thought of and highly respected by our older citizens. This was manifested six or eight years since, when he was appointed janitor of the Capitol, being supported by this class of people. His recollection of affairs fifty years ago was very good; and late in life he was very fond of narrating incidents of people whom he well knew. Among his own race he was to a certain extent an active participant in measures calculated for their benefit, and he was one of the founders of Brotherly Love Lodge, No. 896 of G.U.O. of O.F., with which he continued, until advanced years compelled him to relinquish all interest therein. He was honest and upright and enjoyed the confidence of many who will regret to hear of his departure. He leaves a wife and a daughter married and well-to-do residing in the city of New York.
