- [S5569] Patriot & Union, Patriot & Union. “A MAN BADLY BEATEN.” *Patriot & Union (Reprint: Pennlive)*, May 27, 1863.
As George Allwis, a negro blacksmith, in the employ of some of the iron works below town, was returning to his home on State street yesterday noon, he was attacked and terribly beaten by a party of soldiers. The treatment he received was of a nature so severe as to endanger his life for the time being. We have heard no good cause assigned for the commission of the outrage.
