    Notes:

The Patriot's keen sense of justice has always been most delightfully manifested when considering the political status of the colored people. We call the attention of the colored voters of Harrisburs to a portion of the "funny" article in this morning's Patriot. They will no doubt appreciate the spirit so vulgarly displayed in these "witty" paragrapns
    ENTER JOHN GAITOR (colored)---
Gaitor loquitur. "Gem'men, I'se come for too call on de committee to help dis chile froo de Jordan of his troubles as de candidate ob de great national Rip-up-lican party for de' sponsible and unimportant office ob Supervisor ob de Second district ob dis yere city. De culled voters says as how de Rip -up-licans hab nominated Mr. Gaitor jist to tickle 'em into votin' for Patterson and .Sheesley and dat I'se to be gib'n away for de benefit ob dem candidates. I don't think such tales worth while ob de remotes' increditibilitv. I'se well in formated 'bout Mr. Patterson goin' back ob his promises to de culled folks, but I doesn't intend he shall go back ob me dis yere time. He and de onable committee must stand by dis chile and come down wid de cash. My expenses is jist awful and I must hab de immejate spicuniary 'sistance ob dis committee. I submit de case."

Chairman Child (with a troubled look)---"Send for farmer Patterson This is a stingy crowd and we can't raise much money; the Farmer will have to fix off most of the boys with promises of work. The meeting stands adjourned till called by the Chair. Mr. Gaitor will remain to consult further with myself, Mayor Patterson and Mr. Sheesley."
The reporter then left, but a short time afterward heard Gaitor saying to himself, as he passed out of the court house, in joyful and exultant accents, "Didn't this chile fotch dem roosters?"
John Gaitor is one of the most intelligent and worthy colored men of the city. He is honest, capable, and intelligent, and will make a good supervisor. We know the man and can commend him to the Republicans, both white and colored. Let the colored people remember that if the "friends" of the Patriot had succeeded in their treasonable effort, John Gaitor would not now be a candidate, and they would not be voters.
