FOUND STOLEN TRUNK NEAR OLD CEMETERY
FOUND STOLEN TRUNK NEAR OLD CEMETERY
Was In Good Condition And Contained Clothes And Notes
R. H. Haywood, an employee at the State arsenal, while walking along a small creek back of the old negro cemetery near Herr street, this morning at 9 o’clock found a trunk in fairly good condition lying at the edge of the water and partly submerged.
In the trunk were a suit of clothes and several promissory notes for small sums.
Haywood reported the matter to the police department at once and the description of the trunk and its contents showed that the property belonged to Lewis Wolfensberger, of 1600 Verbeke street.
Wolfensberger’s house, which is near the arsenal, was broken into on the morning of August 17, and the trunk, which was partly filled with clothing, was stolen. He notified the police the same day, but no clue of the burglars has been found. Several articles of clothing that were in the trunk then were missing when the trunk was discovered today.
